Spring is here!

You know what they say about, having to experience winter to really be able to appreciate spring? Well, when I was growing up and survived on Enid Blyton books, it always puzzled me to see how happy everybody was to see a 'Sunny Day'. In India, at that point in time, I used to love overcast, rainy days in those days.. I used to wait for rainy days - used to love monsoon those days...

Now having lived in the UK, I have come to appreciate 'sunny days' finally!

There is definitely something about seeing the garden awash in sunlight!

About seeing little yellow flowers pushing their way out of unruly hedges,

green grass starting to cover brown patches of land,

colourful flowers sprouting just about everywhere - they might be weeds - but they make me feel so, so good!

of seeing neighbours spring cleaning - and all their stuff out in the garden :)

waking up to that wonderful thing called sunlight, instead of dreary 'greyness',

and that wonderful feeling that winter is on its way out,

and summer is just around the corner!

Yes, now I know why....

Great post, Smitha! Yes, people everywhere look forward to Spring.

Loved this post Smitha:)
yes Spring is a glorious time:)
and loved these lines
''About seeing little yellow flowers pushing their way out of unruly hedges,

green grass starting to cover brown patches of land,

colourful flowers sprouting just about everywhere - they might be weeds - but they make me feel so, so good!''
:))
And there are so many jokes about the british weather:D
grey dreary skies:)
I envy you for one thing though...that you are looking at Enid Blyton's pages:))

((hugs))

We in Delhi didnt even know when spring arrived and when it left:D like MAnju has written like Mumbai too Delhi has Summer almost at its door:(

I was in Manchester last year for 15 days and it rained everyday during that period. Then I understood, why my friends in UK love sunny days :)

True, so true! I used to feel the same way, always loved an overcaste sky and even thunder and lightning ... and sunny days generally meant heat and power cuts :)

But love the 'garden awash in sunlight' during the little spring that we do have here...
You should post some pictures too!

@Ajit - Yes, it feels so nice doesn't it when it finally starts getting warmer :) Thank god for that!!!

@Solilo, I don't totally hate winters! I like some parts of it - I like it when it snows.. But after a point - I start yearning for warmth :) Yes 'With sunshine and brightness comes happiness'!

@Vimmuuu - I know - I just got back from India -and it was hot!! But after getting here - one starts yearning for warmth :) Talk about grass being greener :)

@Vinod, Thank you so much for your kind words! 'spring is easily the best time of the year anywhere in the world...life begins anew.' That sums up spring!

@Hitchwriter.. Yes, it is so amazing isn't it - what is paradise for some, is hell for another! We, in India, don't really wait for summer do we? While here, summer is a joyous season! And we have so many songs, glorifying the rains, the monsoons, while here a rainy day is so routine - that nobody wants a rainy day .. I like to think that even the culture, is shaped to a large extent by the weather?? What do you think??

@Pixie- Thank you!

@manju - I know, I think almost everywhere in India, Spring just whizzes by and before we know it, we have the hot sweltering summer days :) Here summer is still a long wait.. Today is overcast again :(

@Indyeah! There - You have done it again - Your comment is longer and more interesting than my post :)
'I envy you for one thing though...that you are looking at Enid Blyton's pages' To be honest - it does not feel all that much like Enid Blyton's pages :)

((hugs)) back to you :)

@Prerna, Welcome! Yes, I can imagine how it must have been - continous rains for 15 days :( And that is so common! Just yesterday was bright and today is all overcast! British weather - no wonder people here talk so much about it :)

@IHM, We always seem to like overcast days more - we have so many songs to that effect too , don't we?

Will post snaps - Have another photopost pending!

By the way, I finally did the 25 things post!

One needs to be in Britain to understand how much sunlight matters to the Brits. Cricket itself has its origins to this.

@Sahaja, Just hopped over from your blog :) Looks like we are all celebrating spring :) Yes - there's something about spring - especially after the British winter - makes it all the more special I guess :)

@Pradeep - Yes, I really started appreciating spring only after coming to the UK. The weather startd brightenning up!

Spring is easily the most cheerful part of the whole year.

Coming as it does on the back of a cold and bleak winter, spring must be like a re-birth.

In Mumbai we have no spring. It is just hot and humid winter, hotter and more humid summer, hot, wet and humid monsoons and the rest is no different.:))

Smitha said...

@Mavin, Yes, there is something magical about spring, isn't there? I have actually experienced spring only here... or I should probably say the 'Joy of Spring' :)
